McGill vs. Berkeley

So, I can't decide between the two. I'm thinking about pre-med, but I'm not completely committed. I've heard that Berkeley is really cut-throat, and McGill would be cheaper, but Berkeley has top programs in so many areas.. Anyways, any advice would be appreciated.

If you live in California, Berkeley.
If you live in Canada, McGill.

If you live in the US outside California, it’s tougher, but I think it’s slightly in Berkeley’s favor. (Social sciences, Berkeley is unbeatable; however, McGill’s life sciences programmes are competitve.)

Well, I do live in Canada, so I’m leaning towards McGill because it’s so much cheaper. I’m thinking of going into chemistry, however, and Berkeley’s Chemistry dept is #1 so it’s really hard to pass up.

Berkeley is a great school and city. McGill has a good (and improving) chem department with a good history (produced 3 Nobel prize winners) and some award winning professors, but it’s no Berkeley. Why not go to McGill for undergrad and then Cal when it really counts, grad school.

Are you kidding? UCB all the way!

I would go with Berkley

Having learned a new fact about Berkeley’s chemistry department, I’d recommend McGill only if you plan on grad school; if you plan on only getting a BS or BSc, go to Berkeley.

For chemistry? UC Berkeley – no-brainer. Infinitely better reputation/ranking = more employment/grad school opportunities and more money.

Plus, you will actually get a better education at UCB than at McGill.
