Hi there...i'm having a bit of a problem...i was wondering which you would think is better to go to? i got into u miami pre-med program but when looking at the ranking mcgill is ranked much higher. i went to u miami and to be honest didn't get the wow factor that much and now i'm questioning whether it's better to go to an american undergrad or canadian/ in the future which one would look better. thanks!

Hey, i got into Umiami too, i just applied there as my safety. McGill is ranked in the top ten quite a lot for life sciences/ bio med, so i’d definitely choose McGill. I’m not too sure what Umiami strong points are. My brother goes, there, his major is IR and he does’t think its anything amazing academics wise, but he says it’s not bad either. You’ll probably be challenged more at McGill too which would be a good asset when applying for med school.

You have to enter the weather into the equation. Winters in Montreal are long and brutal from mid Nov until mid March. You are choosing between a ski mask and a pair of flip flops.

haha, i’m getting cold just thinking about it! Eish!

Miami is in Ohio, not Arizona… both schools get winter, both get summer. Comes down to, do you want a school with academics that back up the name, or do you want a school that claims to be more than it is.

If you’re wearing a polo while reading this your decision is already made…

There is actually a University of Miami in Florida. Florida may not be as hot as Arizona but it is still flipflop and polo weather worthy. If the pompous jerks of the work don’t wear polos I better go out a stock up on polos.

***the world
not work

my bad, all apologies, umiami is of course in florida, i read it as just miami

in that case, yes it is a huge difference, in weather and atmosphere, etc. most will agree that mcgill academics are more highly regarded, but thats not the only factor in this case for sure

If you are looking for a more cultural international experience i would suggest going to McGill. Coming from an international school, my brother was a little bit shocked at the lack of all kinds diversity; race, nationality and just personality wise i guess. That being said he does love it there. McGill is definitely more prestigious if that’s what your into, but apparently Umiami is up and coming.

" but apparently Umiami is up and coming"

Most will think that MCGill and Umia are academically comparable.

Outside of this thread, I doubt if many people, American or Canadian, think of McGill and UMiami as comparable. If you want to believe the random “survey” conducted by a for profit publuisher. go ahead.

Of those given by CALADV, I would rank them all as relatively equal, except UMiami at about two steps below. Each of them have strengths though… but of these I’d say NYU and McGill probably have the best total package: Ugrad, Grad, Professional, etc.
