I can confirm that all McNair scholar's have been notified.Spoke to admissions today with other scholarship questions and he confirmed that fact for me.All notices went out last Wednesday by FedEx.
However, admissions confirmed that other scholarship letters will be going out until mid March..so good luck all with any of those.

Funny, I spoke to admissions today and they said that all McNair was going out today and Monday. Seems we're not getting consistant information. Most likely SC is dragging their feet. We'll just have to wait it out and see how it goes.

It just dawned on me..perhaps they will be extending further invites after the first wave of recipients decided not to attend the interview weekend and officially declined the invite ,which is 2 weeks away.
Then we were both getting the right info (?)...the person I spoke to was someone I was tranferred to from the general person who answered the phone..either Allan or Adam I believe..seemed pretty knowledgable about the specifics of certain scholarships.
Holding out hope for you....

We contacted USC and this is the response we received today.

"All McNair and Carolina Scholar Finalists have been notified by Fed Ex and phone calls. We sent them out on February 1st. We also sent out letters to students who qualified for the semi-finalist screening, but were not selected as finalists last week. We will be sending out further scholarship letters by March 1st."

So this should answer everyone's questions........hopefully.

FYI: more info rec'd from USC

"The Cooper Scholars Award and others will be determined within the next week or so. We have to see what our class looks like before we can say who will be eligible for which award. Once we decide on the award criteria, then we will determine our scholarship winners. Usually it does not vary too much from the previous year."

thanks momofpaul

What sat scores do you need for McNair Out of state?

There isn’t an actual cutoff score.take a look at the statisitics listed for the entering class for the past few years (somewhere on the Honors College pages)
it will give you a general idea of the 25%-75% ranges of scores. Also, you can take a look there at the actual application…you need to be prepared to complete it…some kids say its amongst the most difficult app they had done.

I cant find it… I just want averages/ mid ranges

3.97 GPA (unweigthed) and 2110 SAT (1410/1600)

I cant find McNair stats specifically, but I found the general Honors College stats at:schc.sc.edu/about/
anticipate that you should be at the top of the stats range (they do 25%-75% ranges)
from the high school guidance counselor info pages (on the admission pages) I found the stats for 2009 Fall Honors College entry of : SAT range 1350-1440 GPA 4.55 ACT 31-32.5
be aware that the McNair consideration is more than stats driven. What they are considering (we were told) is what the student will bring to the University, and that they consider the students they award will be the future leaders of their entering class,in all different areas. They value a well rounded student and are interested in a diversity of extra curricular activities. In fact, when S was interviewed they were iinterested in how he managed to keep a part time paid job related to his intended major while being a state level officer in a national service organization.
