Hi, freshman in college here. My question is, is it possible to work for the World Health Organzation, CDC, or even Doctors without Borders by receiving a Dual Degree in M.D./ B.A. in Global Health? I was looking into all the dual degree programs in the nation that have this particular combination and it is something I would literally LOVE to do. I am very interested. I am about to finish up my first semester (2 more exams to go!) and I think my first semester GPA would come to 3.5 so far. I played a sport this fall and it ran really long for the season. I am taking 19 credits next semester because my advisor didn't place me in chem but I am very determined to get a 4.0 next semester. Are these programs worth it in the long run? btw my major is Spanish and I have a minor in Global Diseases.

yes, definitely. I know a lot of doctors work in places, such as CDC and FDA.

The vast majority of these programs require you to apply as a senior in high school, so you’re not eligible for any of those since you’re already in college.

One possibility is the Mount Sinai FlexMed program, which takes sophomores in college ([About FlexMed Program - Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai](FlexMed Early Admission | Icahn School of Medicine)). You can also choose to go the traditional med school route.

No, they don’t. When I apply to medical school, assuming I get accepted, a lot of these programs are 5 years.
Many schools have this option:
Tulane
Columbia
University of Pennsylvania
and many more.

These programs are very good. The give a public policy masters degree with a medical degree.
[Tulane University - MD/MPH Prospective Students](http://tulane.edu/publichealth/mdmph/md-mph-prospective.cfm)
Here is the website for Tulane University. My questions pertained to achieving these degrees and possibly working for the CDC, WHO, Doctors without Borders, or the NIH.

Your title says MD/BA.

You don’t need to apply upfront (I am not sure they accept a combined app) but do the one year course while you are in med school. Many decide to take the extra year after the third year and they decide between MPH/MBA/Research when they decide on the extra year.

Applying for MPH does not come with any additional weight during MD application. So you have to make the MD cut whether you apply for MPH or not.
