MD vs DO

which do you guys think is better..it seems to me that DO is better but MD is widely known what do u guys think??

I always thought MD was...of course I truthfully don't know the difference

define better.

in general, DO's are the people who couldn't make it into the schools that offer MD's...right?

These degrees are essentially interchangeable.

They're the same.

if the degrees are "interchangeable," then why two schools of medicine? couldnt they incorporate the ideals of osteopathic medicine into a md? (like a reform of allopathic or whatever they call it medicine)

I've always gotten the impression that MD's are considered more "mainstream", but these days, that is actually seeming to be almost a handicap in a world where Eastern and alternative medicine is all the rage.

For musculoskeletal issues, in my experience at least, DO's have it all above MD's. For other areas, perhaps MD's are a better choice.

No, I meant they are the same. There is a little old school musculoskeletal voodoo stuff still offered at DO schools, but it's pretty anachronistic. The admission requirements, curriculum and quality of the graduates are all equal. DO schools do tend to produce more primary care docs, but that's just a geographical thing as much as a philosophical one I think. I do remember many years ago when California had a grace period during which DOs who wanted to do so could just exchange their degrees for MDs.
