Hi
I'm a rising junior mechanical engineering major at Georgia Tech. I always loved programming; so, I've become a CS minor in my sophomore year. Right now, I'm confused if I want to do my Masters in CS or ME. Can anyone help me decide? I want to know what the job market looks like for people like me.

Additional Info:
I'm in the tech's BS/MS program. So, I'll be admitted into the ME masters program without having to take the GRE. However, if I want to do my masters in CS, I'll have to take the GRE even if I want to go to Tech. Also, I'm planning on applying to Berkeley and CMU, in case I go with CS. I heard these universities are really selective. So, what do you think my chances are if I graduate with a GPA around 3.75 and decent research experience in CS and excellent research experience in ME. Also, what GRE scores do these schools prefer?

I think I've asked too many questions. So, I'll be back later to check on the replies.
Thank you

It is hard to say what the job market looks like (other than poor) because you have not indicated specific preferences. If you pull off a solid gpa in your masters you should have no problem getting a job in either field.

As far as admissions go, GT is a good school and you’ll have some research - get good GRE’s and solid LOR’s and you are probably okay for admissions in either field. Many people switch fields going into grad school, and with the minor in CS you are already pretty well prepped. There will be some make-up, and you will certainly have an easier time getting into ME.

As far as GRE scores, aim for a 450+V, 4.5+AW, and the highest Q you can get - most of your competition will have a 780+Q. Don’t stress too much about the other two scores, as long as they are at least tolerable.

that was very helpful…thank you cosmicfish
btw, I’m thinking of doing my masters in artificial intelligence…my advisor said it would be compliment my ME degree…
also, what would you say is a solid GPA for undergrad? right now, my GPA is around 3.74…people say it’s a good GPA from Tech…but most of my friends from Penn State and such have their GPAs around 3.8-3.9 which makes me feel bad…
