Just wondering if any parents of current Goucher students had any thoughts about which meal plan to choose. Their website says the 190-meal plan is the most popular. This amounts to slightly less than two meals a day over a semester. Do your kids find this works for them? Seems a little scanty. Our kid is pretty much a normal teenage eater, I'd say--certainly not hungrier than average. He doesn't eat red meat but otherwise is more or less an omnivore. Thanks for any advice!

Hi nightchef, My son chose the 190 the first semester and found that he did run out of meals. He had friends that “swiped” for him on their ticket toward the end of the semester, but we opted for the 240 for the past semester. We did not want him to feel that he had to ration his eating. There were days he ate only two meals, but you don’t want to feel like you have to do that. Paying for meals out of pocket for the last weeks if you run out is very expensive, and much more than the difference between the 190 and the 240. It seemed worth it to pay for it in advance. Of course you can have a refridgerator in your room and that can help.

Thanks LongeyeMom…that is what we suspected. We’ll talk to him about it first, but I think we’ll probably go with the 240 for the first year.

My son also ran out of meals on the 190 plan in his freshman year and we did the 240 meal the next year, but then he had too many left over! A lot seemed to depend on the schedule - he had earlier classes the first year and ended up doing three meals a day, but in later semesters he woke up later and had a late breakfast so he only had two meals a day. I thought it was a good sign that he ran out of meals since his friends at other schools tried to avoid their dining halls and always had too many meals left, but he has always liked the food.
