14 is the way to go as a Freshman.

get the minimum amount of meals, the food sucks. you're probably going to end up taking out/eating out alot more than you eat at the pit.

I've read this thread about meal plans and I'm trying to figure out why everyone eats such few meals. I'm reading that even 14 might be too much. How can 2 meals a day be too much? Is it that people don't like the food at the Pit or is it that people just don't eat? I have become used to 3 meals a day, so I'm wondering if I'll continue that or just get used to eating less because of the food options. How do people get by on 14 or less meals per week? Do you really eat that little? Does the Pit food get old quickly?

Thanks!

Most people don't eat a full three meals a day, no. Beyond that, even the people who do eat three meals a day typically eat one of them in their room because it saves time. I normally don't eat breakfast, but if I do, it's always, always, always in my room. Then factor in club meetings that are serving food at least a couple of times a week, eating at Subway or eating out once a week or so, and it's easy to get to less than 14.

I ate breakfast at the Pit maybe 5-10 times the entire year, only one of those being on a weekday. With early morning classes and probably late nights you won't have time or won't want to eat at the Pit in the morning. I kept cereal, milk, instant breakfast and some other breakfast-y types of food in my room and just ate those before I left for class. That's what most people I know did. In addition to that there'll be times you'll skip lunch or dinner at the Pit for other options, so once you factor that stuff in it's pretty easy to see why 14 isn't too little. I found that my eating patterns at college were a whole lot different than they were at home.

Ehh the food isn't necessarily bad, but it just is rather repetitive. They usually do similar things. The only part of the pit that I take offense to is how poor the meat quality is.

I usually just ate like a granola bar in the morning (big southern breakfasts with grits, bacon, biscuits, and pancakes were too heavy for me). I almost always ate lunch in the pit and then ate dinner in it maybe 4-5 times a week. The only time I really ate a big breakfast was Sunday after church (but that was like at 1 in the afternoon so it doesn't really count) and during finals.
