Does the prestiege of your undergradute university factor into admissions to a top medical school like Johns Hopkins. I know it does for high paying business jobs and I was curious to know if it was as great a factor.

It does not affect high paying business jobs that much, I dunno where you heard that from. Define prestige…state school? ivy league? My cousin went from University of Maryland undergrad to Harvard Med. That should answer your question.

it doesn’t matter. the only way it would matter (mayyybee) is if 2 applicants are IDENTICAL and one went to a prestigious school and the other went to a less prestigious school, because the GPA from a prestigious school would look better.

But, it all comes down to the MCAT. That’s the beauty of it, it levels the playing field. If you score better than a kid from an Ivie, then there’s no IF, ANDS or BUTS to it, you are simply the better candidate, regardless of where you went to school. Of course, GPA makes a difference too. But MCAT and GPA make all the difference. Plus, going to a smaller/less competitive school may give you more opportunities to stand out and do more research (beef up you resume).

Doing the best will be where you are the happiest and can put your full effort. Some people can’t handle too much competition (like myself, I go to a smaller high school with less competition). Another thing, you’ll get the highest GPA in the program you like the most. You should be able to get all the pre-reqs in almost any program, so choose one that you are genuinely interested in
