Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this thread- I don't know where else to post it where people can reply.

Anyway, since I am fascinated with medicine and crime, I want to be a medical examiner. I tried to get a lot of information about becoming a medical examiner, but I couldn't.

1) How many years will it take to be a medical examiner (including college and medical school)?

2) Is an undergraduate degree in molecular biology acceptable?

3) What is the average salary a year?

4) Can a medical examiner do some research outside the lab (having two different jobs)?

5) How demanding is it?

A medical examiner is a medical doctor trained in forensic pathology. You would have to complete four years of undergraduate studies, then four years of medical school, then about 4-5 years of an Anatomical/Clinical pathology residency, and finally, 1-2 years doing a forensic pathology fellowship.

It doesn't matter what your undergraduate degree is in, as long as you can obtain a high GPA and complete the pre-med requirements for med school.

Here are some websites that I've found helpful:

I see there are not many of us who would like to become a medical examiner. I'm very excited to pursue this career, although I understand that this career is a bit long, but I'm determined to follow in this path of a forensic pathologist. I have many questions and some doubts....? Thanks for the sites CDN_dancer..
