Lately I have been thinking about what I should do in the future. I'm not sure if I want to be a doctor exactly, but I was thinking of maybe doing something in medical research? However, I am not sure exactly what I would major in and if I would have to go to med school or no? Also, is this a demanding field or not? If someone could give me some information about this or where to find information, that would be great.

Research does not require a M.D. You should get a PhD if you want research.

Demanding field? depends on which field you go into. Medical research is very bio-oriented and there are some fields that are really hot and exciting right now (neuroscience, nanotechnology), some that are always in demand (micro/molecular biology), and a few that are much smaller (don't know of any though).

There's also the option of getting M.D. and Ph.D.

The easiest way would be to just get a phD. However, if you want to become a great researcher, you will have to put a significant amount of time into it. This means coming into lab at odd hours or going in on the weekends.
