Medical School Applications Up 17% over Last Year

Medical schools are seeing a historic increase in the number of students applying. Applications are up over 17% compared with last year. (The 2019-20 cycle only saw a 1.1% increase over the 2018-29 cycle.)

Less strict application requirements (a number of medical schools have gone MCAT optional this year), the perceived job stability of physicians and rising unemployment among new college graduates have all been suggested as reasons for the sharp uptick in the number of applicants.

Not sure how this didn’t get any response, guess it was lost in transition to new format.
As economic issues seem obvious reasons, reality portraits a different picture in last 2 economic downturns. 17% hike is breathtaking and that is certainly going to dip the ~40% acceptance rate in general.
