Medical School for Non-Traditional Pre-Med

Good Morning Everyone,

I currently hold two degrees from two different highly rated public institutions. One in Human Development with an Early Childhood Certificate and a bachelor of science in speech and hearing sciences from one of the top programs in the country.

My question is is medical school an option for me?

I have a 3.6 in all my major classes from both degrees and a 3.4 GPA overall from both schools. I have 1 year research experience and two years of working experience with pilot special education programs in public schools. I have recommendations from two professors from my speech classes/research experience and one from my work experience.

I am not looking at going to Yale or Harvard, but I am wondering if any US schools are an option and if so what MCAT score would I need?

Thank you all for your time.

To med schools, “non-traditional” has a different definition from your own. A “non-Traditional” applicant is some one who has been out of the academic study for over 5 years. Your situation is still considered as traditional.

With a CGPA(overall) of 3.4, It is highly unlikely you will be accepted by a MD school, but you have a shot at a DO school. But before you can apply, you need to:

A. Completed your med school pre-requirement.
B. Took Mcat
C. Enough shadowing, research in medicine and medical related volunteering.

So, what have you done with the above three?

Check out the DO schools. Here is one in New England, see https://www.une.edu/ For a full list see https://www.une.edu/
