Medical School - Interesting conversation

Duncan’s right. Aim for straight A’s, of course, but you don’t actually need straight A’s. The national average among eventual medical students is something like two-thirds A’s and one-third B’s.

orange peel
"So what should I do? Just try to aim for straight A’s?
If Im minoring in a completely different field (Music) do I still need to get A’s in that? Because I think I might have a hard time with that "

-You are like my D. She actually had 2 minors, but had to drop one because of additional requirements of one Med. School on her list. She still will graduate with Music Composition Minor. Compostion is less time consuming than performance. Maybe you should look into that. She was thinking about Performance originally, but it would involve actual performance, she would not have time for that. Music Composition classes have been relaxing, D. really loves them and her minor has been a topic of discussion at Med. School interviews and other interviews. However, (here you go with GPA), she has three A-, which are counted into general GPA, all in site singing. While it is impressing to have A- for non-singer who has never had any voice lessons singing in duets with music majors, A- is a little step down from A. Other than that, she aimed at straight A’s and she has accomplished that so far. Additional time consuming part of Senior year is going to Med. School interviews. You should schedule less classes fopr that period. Here is a scoop for music minor, which has been very rewarding experience so far. The most D. was impressed working on real recording equipment using special software all by herself in recording studio, very cool. Best wishes.

Got it. So aim for straight As. Its ok if I dont get it. Do well on MCATs. Find internships/activities that will further my knowledge. Find something Im passionate about (what if its not related to medical studies?)

@Miami. thats VERY interesting. The recording studio sounds really interesting to me. Hmmmm I dunno I filled out the Minor application and I dont think it gave you a choice. I think maybe I get to choose after I make the audition? Anyhow, this seems really interesting. Im not the most productive student in the world. Im scared if performance will be too much for me to handle. Nor am I an ace at piano or my studies. I just heard that everyone does Performance or something. Or thats at least what everyone asks me when I tell them Im gonna minor, so I usually say yeah
