I was reading the criteria for LSU medical school N.O. and saw that non Louisiana residence applicants will not be considered. I am coming from Florida and will be attending LSU for undergrad. I know that for tuition purposes I will not be considered a resident, but for LSU medical school, and the state, would I be considered a resident after living in LA for 4 years as well as changing my license, voting card, car registration and renting an appartment, as I noticed they do provide an in state and out of state tuition price.

It sounds like you would ride a fine line on being a LA resident.

I would have a look at this: <a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>http://www.collegeboard.com/about/association/international/pdf/sr_LA01.pdf , which outlines some general guidelines about residency.

You can’t be classified as a resident solely for attending school here, but there are some guidelines on how to show that Louisiana is your main domicile. This comes in the form of what you have already mentioned (voting, car registration, etc.), but additionally your financial support should mostly come from LA sources (i.e. no parentals, or at least not major support).

As far as LA-New Orleans med school goes, it’s the unwritten rule that nothing but LA residents get into the school unless you are applying for their MD/pHD program, which will take out of state applicants.

I’d figured I would update this since I’m filling out my AMCAS at the moment. Here is what is listed on the AMCAS about LSU- New Orleans,

Thank you for the update

Are you serious? You have to be a Louisiana resident to be accepted into LSU Med School? That is really unfair to people that were forced to move away due to Katrina, the economy, after living most of their lives, paying taxes, in Louisiana.
