Are all students in medical school required to observe surgery? Thanks.

not just observe surgery, but actually assist as well. You'll get pretty good at standing in uncomfortable positions for hours holding retractors so that the surgeons can work...

So we should work out and build stamina...

....or you can have a vasovagal attack every time you enter the OR and then be kicked out

Fun read; not everyone likes surgery. surgery1

This is probably something you should do regardless of whether you want to be a doctor or an underwater basket weaver. (being in good shape is good)

lol good point, GoldShadow.

I'm having occasional back pain. I think it's cuz I fell (hard!) on my butt a few weeks ago. I hope it goes away soon....

ASMAJ, OMG I ended up with Surgery being last on my palette of rotations. I'm very scared... scared of the whole third year! runs back to studying for Step 1

Third year is phenomenal though - SO much better than going to lecture every day. It's a little scary for sure, but once you get used to it...awesome and much more educational.

Would medical schools take into account that engineering is generally more difficult than other majors? (If my gpa is not very high because I majored in engineering)

From the admissions officer I have spoken to, they do consider it but they dont lower the gpa standard that much. For a regular psych, bio, chem, nutrition, etc major you need a 3.5 and up (focus on up). However, for engineering they will lower it to ~3.25-3.4, but you still need to have a high science GPA (3.5>). Also remember engineering courses (statics, dynamics, circuits, etc) are not included into the science GPA. Just think hard before you decide on premed engineering. I know multiple engineering majors with 3.6 and up, so it is doable, but a harder track than a psych premed.
