does anyone know at andover whether or not they let you self medicate?

From the Blue Book: “In general, students are allowed to keep their medications in their dorm rooms. However, for safety reasons, all psychotropic medications (e.g., antidepressants, anxiety medications, and medications for ADD, such as Ritalin and Adderall) must be kept at Isham, and are dispensed in one- or two-week supplies to individual students.”

This is a very good question. Can one keep meds for the common cold in their room?
I would mostly like to know for Groton, Msex, Loomis, St.G

Absolutely, this is not a prison you will be attending.

Well it is prison in Jr. boarding school. no meds, random rm. cks. no cell phones.

Check your school handbook.

What about prescription sleeping pills?

I do know someone @ loomis who goes to the nurse to get some medication, though i don’t know what it is for, and stuff like asthma medication and sleeping pills are probably alowed in the rooms

Andover’s rule basically goes for most schools. You can keep as much OTC’s in your room as you want, and basically most prescriptions that aren’t psychotropic

I’m sending my son with a little box with OTC meds like cough syrup, cortizon cream, cold medicine, alleve, etc. I can’t imagine that they would think a kid who is capable of living away from home is incapable of knowing when he has a headache or a stuffy nose and needs some sudafed.

hey neato im just wondering what form is your son going into at exeter?

He’ll be a new prep. (9th grade)

I would imagine that many schools have parental consent forms for self-medication requirements. They are usually included with the Health Form packet.

(prison? haha. Inmates should be so lucky)

ummm schools don’t want kids having Ritalin and Adderall or Vicodin because kids can sell
these drugs to other students who will chop them up and snort them

Yeah, Hcos. There’s usually something in the rulebook that says narcotics and/or psycotropic drugs must be kept in the health center and they will dispense a week at a time. Of course, if a student intended to sell his prescriptions, he simply would fill them off campus and not tell the school he had them.

Prescription drug abuse is a huge problem now.

yeah I know A lot of kids are doing it
simply because it is extremely easy to get

There was a death last year in our little town when a kid chewed up a phentanol (sp?) patch.

never heard of that but that sounds awful

I’m very glad you’ve never heard of it, hcos! :)
…and I did spell it wrong. sorry
