Hi everyone,
My passion has always been science, and because of this I used to search for colleges strictly on the strength of their science programs. However, after visiting colleges like MIT, it was clear to me that I didn't want a school that puts all or the majority of its focus on math related majors. After visiting Brown and Tufts the next day, I knew that I really wanted something that focuses on mixing science with other subjects like the arts and humanities. The problem with LACs is that they are much too small for my preferences. My high school class is only 96 people, so I was hoping to have a medium sized college, preferably between 5,000 to 15,000 undergrads. So, does anyone know any medium sized universities with LAC-like academics? Schools like Tufts and Brown both caught my attention.

Here are some stats:

Current SAT: 2070 CR: 640 M: 680 W: 750 (I'm retaking in October after studying, aiming for a 2200)
UW GPA: 3.85
Course load: Most rigorous for my HS, will have 7 APs by the time I graduate
Ethnicity: Hispanic (Puerto Rican)
EC activities: Pretty good, lots of unique volunteer experience, some research
Essay is coming along very well, should be extremely unique.

I am specifically looking for MATCH schools, but any recommendations are great! Along with medium size and LAC-like academics, I'd prefer a strong science program with a focus on research. They must be in the northeast! No further south than DC or further west than Ohio.
Thanks in advance!

you must take the time to visit two schools! rice university and hendrix college! if you go to them and visit you will fall in love with both! (IMO)

Zobroward: Thanks for the input but Texas and Arkansas are so far away! I can’t consider them.
110percent: I’ll look at UVA, thanks! How much does religion dominate student life at William and Mary? I’m not religious.

Hey thanks guys!
Barrk: Oh sorry I thought that it was religious because it seemed like one of those catholic colleges. And thanks, Tufts is one of my reaches, I’ll take a look at the others

Not to beat on a dead horse, but URochester looks like a perfect match. But some of the other recommended schools some others recommended do seem a bit out of place (in my opinion). If you didn’t like MIT for having “all or the majority of its focus on math related majors” I am fairly certain you won’t like RIT, since it is almost exclusively Engineering/Math/Science majors.

I think you might get a similar feel at CMU (I did) but it won’t be as bad as a place like MIT or RIT. I definitely wouldn’t say that it has"LAC like academics" though.

Thanks so much everyone!
CollegeXC: I forgot to mention that I already love URochester. It’s actually my only match so far. I completely agree too, I probably won’t really like RIT or CMU

I would say Case Western is a good bet. It’s in Ohio so it fits your geography requirements. It has a lot of engineering majors but is also strong in the pure sciences. There is a sizable business school and liberal arts school.

The university is a nice size (around 5000 UG) and focuses on research.
