Hi All,
I’m a transfer student, I want to stay a fifth semester but I will go past the 130 unit mark at the end of this Spring. I came in as an art history major but made that my minor instead. I am a Art Practice major and I have two more classes left in order to graduate. I could complete those classes over Summer, but I don’t want to do that, I want to complete them in the Fall.
My advisor told me to meet with the dean and that I’d better have a compelling reason to stay. The only thing I can come up with is that I needed time to complete my minor and I don’t want to do Summer school because it will limit my ability to work full time.
Anything you can do to help me is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
A compelling reason would be if you actually did have a full-time career related job lined up over the summer that is for the summer only. Do you? Wouldn’t the better jobs be available in August if you were actually finished with your degree then? It seems odd that given instructions to find a compelling reason to stay for the fall, you are asking people on the internet to find you a compelling reason.
Hey Cheddar,
I do have a full-time career related job lined up for the Summer, but it may slip through my fingers if I have to do Summer school. Regardless of whether I’d be able to get a better job in August, I’d still need to generate a full-time income for the Summer. I’m not asking for compelling reasons, mine were mentioned already. I made this post with the hope that I’d get assistance in creating a strong, well-framed petition to stay based on my situation.
Is what you said based on assumption, or have you or someone you know petitioned to stay longer due to having a full-time career related job lined up? I am asking because I’m married, own a house that’s underwater, and my wife and I have big student loans from her education at another UC. I think I have some concrete reasons for needing to work, but I’d like to know that they will consider my professional/financial situation.
Thanks.
