Mens Rowing

anyone have any insight on the rowing team? assuming you have the right Erg score -height and weight- anyone have a sense of what grades you will need?

There’s lots of good things to say about the rowing team. They’ve won a couple of national championships, and they are typically amount the top crews in the country. They have a great boathouse, and the university has made a commitment to support rowing as one of their ‘flagship’ sports (they have no football team).

As for what grades you would need, since they’re not in the Ivy League they don’t have the same issues with AI and cutoffs, and while NU has gotten much more competitive in the past 10/20 years, it’s still not as hyper-competitive as the Ivies. We were told they are looking for rowers with roughly the same grades and test scores as their student body as a whole, but that sounded more like a guideline than a hard and fast rule. I’d definitely recommend that you reach out to Coach Sobolewski directly; he handles their recruiting.

Speaking of standards, just FYI - on the men’s side they are looking for rowers whose 2k will be at 6:18 by the time they show up in the fall, and (if I recall correctly) a 20:30 6k.
