Is being an ACTIVE member of MENSA who does a lot of voluntary work considered a huge asset for the Ivy League adcoms? (I also mentioned that my IQ is 157)

Why don’t you use the standard deviation of 15?

If you mentioned your IQ on a college application, your IQ is probably not 157.

^^^^^ Very true

^^^Haha…

^^^Most Definitely!

Probably too late now… but putting your IQ into your app just wasn’t a good idea. If you don’t have some match schools applications in, create a new version of the common app and take that info OUT, and send them in now. I am not kidding.

Mensa involvement is just fine as an EC but mentioning your IQ is a big, big no.

and why is that? if I send SAT and ACT scores to the college, which used to be just an IQ test in disguise, and I am an international student whose native language is not English… I was assuming that this was a good way to stand out because the probability is 1 in 15 000 people which is BTW an equivalent probability of scoring a 2400 SAT and the standard deviation was 15… and yes, I am applying to Ivy league schools… I am also a member of the national triathlon team and a recipient of a highly selective high school exchange scholarship… so why would mentioning IQ be such a big problem??

Trust me, it is viewed differently than SAT & ACT scores. They might cut you some slack because you are international and don’t understand the culture here. But from an American student, they would consider it pretty snobby and insufferable to include it.

Oh dear, I hope they do… I included this info with my best intentions because this score alone could you get into most of the schools in here… I hope it doesnt hurt me too bad all the schools I apply to are Ivy leagues :/

As I said, maybe they will cut you some slack. But… if you have spent any time out here on College Confidential at all, you know that applying to just Ivy League schools is not a good approach to take. No matter how good your credentials are, they have oodles of applicants who are equally impressive, and only accept a small percentage of them. So it is a very good idea to apply to a few colleges further down the scale as well.
