Mensa

I've heard before that colleges don't like it if you put down that you're a member of Mensa... I would think that that would be wrong - is it? Because that sounds ridiculous.

a lot of kids who apply to those top schools have high IQs. and besides, it's not your IQ.. it's what you make of what you have.
I guess it looks pretentious to put on your application.

Unless things have changed, you can qualify for Mensa on SAT test scores alone. Therefore, if schools cared at all about what Mensa means in terms of "quality" or "smarts," they could calculate exactly which of their applicants are Mensa-eligible. The only difference between you and the bright, intelligent, high-scoring people who aren't in mensa is that you sought out membership. Ergo, it's not that impressive.

If Mensa membership had other qualifications, something that said something additional about you and gave information that colleges didn't already have, then it would be something that added to your candidacy. As it is, I don't think colleges have much reason to be impressed by it.

I'm pretty sure things have changed. But it still makes sense since it used to be that way. Okay, I won't put it down.

It's not as if it's a strike against you, I'd say. However, it's just not very prestigious in terms of notable achievements relatively
