Mental Illness - applying to YPS

<p>I think the main issue is if it’s affected you academically. In my case, it most certainly has, and I’ve been a bit of a wreck trying to figure out if I ought to include it on my application or not. And everyone has a different opinion on it; some highly critical, others highly encouraging. I’m not sure what to think either. I suppose if there’s any possible way for you to not include it, don’t, just to be safe. But then again, I have no idea how colleges are going to react; it may be a very positive thing or a very negative one. Furthermore, since I know where you’re coming from, I commend you on being able to get yourself back on track the way you have. It takes a lot of courage. </p>

<p>Woah, woah. Why is it that when I wrote about my struggles with mental illness and college admissions, people said I shouldn’t mention it in my application? I was in the hospital twice for attempted suicide. I have Mood Disorder NOS, as well as obsessive-compulsive disorder and social anxiety disorder. Everyone told me to get over it though…</p>
