The application I'm currently working on has an essay prompt asking for the top five reasons for wanting to attend that school. One of my reasons spans from hearing my tour guide say that she has switched her major multiple times. Would it hurt my chances of getting in if I say that I like the school for the flexibility it gives me just in case my intended major doesn't work out?

Do you think it would make the admissions counselors think that I can't commit?

No, most college students switch their major at some point.

Why does the fact that your tour guide switch majors draw you to that school? Is it simply because it is allowed, or it is because the school’s strength in multiple areas allows that? If the latter, I would mention that. But if you just like that you can switch majors, that’s possible at really every school except maybe some very focused tech schools or something like that.

I think it would work to say that the wide variety of course options appeals to you because you want to explore areas outside your major and should you decide to change majors because of your studies, there are appealing choices available. Something like that. Schools like to see that you want to be well-rounded and expand your horizons.
