What are some of the benefits and downsides of having an alumni mentor? I've been thinking about registering, but I want to hear some opinions first.

mine never got into contact with me. kind of bummed, but oh well. i hear others have great mentors though.

Anyone else know about this?

Although I don’t participate in the program, I know many alumni who do and recent grads that have done it.

What do you get out of the experience? As with anything at Cornell, as much as you’re willing to put into it. The alumni mentors are leaders in their fields as well as involved alumni, and provide a good support mechanism for you as an undergrad. This is an adult who went through the Cornell experience, and can help guide you in areas that others may not be able to. And because of their connections, they can put you in touch with the right people once you’ve decided upon your career path.

I would consider doing it if you feel you’ll need the support, but remember, it’s also up to you to maintain the relationship.
