And my point is that while a team member went to Stanford, for example, that person is not on Stanford’s roster. Usually these “where our team is now” lists show their current teams, not simply where they matriculated. So this actually says nothing about the intensity of the team.
Thanks again for all of the feedback! My son will be attending Mercersburg next year. @TonyGrace and @dramakid2, you are correct about the aquatic center. It is amazing! My son is a swimmer and very excited to swim in the new pool.
Welcome to Mercersburg, @novaboymom! So happy to hear your son will be attending!
Congratulations! I am sure he will love it there.
For future reference, another difference I’ve come to learn about Mburg and SAS is grade reporting. Mburg has midterm progress reports, which I found VERY helpful, especially when this kid needed a little extra urging to go to office hours, extra help, etc. When this kid was a freshman I think there were also reports after a month or so, just to give parents an idea of how things were going in the beginning. SAS pretty much only releases comments and grades at the end of the semester, so it’s more hands off.
YES! For new students the progress reports come every 3 weeks, and they are narrative comments from the teachers, not just number grades - and, not grades of record. Super helpful for knowing how things are going. FYI, if your kid is NOT a new student and their grade falls below an 80 in any class, they too will go on progress reports. Even seniors. The philosophy is that there should be no surprises.
Peddie functions this way too (Mercersburg).
OMG – I HATE those kind of surprises!
another minor difference between SAS and Mburg is that Mburg takes formal class photos and kid photo once a year. I don’t know if SAS normally does this during a non-pandemic year.
I’ve heard that lawrenceville has a very sporty environment and that students who excel in sports thrive there. Is this true?
One of the great things about Lville is it’s size. While there is definitely an athletic feel to the school, there are enough students on campus for everyone, athletic or not, to find their place. Kiddo1 is not an athlete but she has an incredible group of friends there, and literally can’t wait to get back to school.
I haven’t gotten that impression at all. I’m incredibly un-athletic, and I’ve had an amazing experience so far, as have all of my friends. Just as cityran said, it doesn’t really matter if you aren’t a top-tier athlete because there’s so many people that you’ll always find people who you are comfortable with—everyone has their own little “world” (so-to-speak).
