Merit Aid at Which Schools for These Stats

I'm rethinking the whole loan idea for college and my head is spinning. I'd now like to look at some schools that she could do at least as well as FLorida's Bright Futures which would give her free tuition. DD (and I) don't think she would fit in at all into Florida's HUGE state schools.

DD wants engineering (chemical).

SAT's
CR/M 1500
CR/M/W 2220
SAT II's
Chem 790 Math 740
GPA
3.97 unweighted
4.8 weighted
Full IB
School doesn't officially rank, but she's in the top couple %

Okay EC's
Community service, Varsity sport (also club), 1 summer job

She is only NM commended as she did not take the PSAT's seriously because it was only "practice". ARGH!!!

Essay writing is NOT her strong suit.

She's also not sure what kind of recommendations she will get because she is incredibly shy/quiet so the teachers don't "know" her other than her grades.

Case, RPI, Northeastern, IIT

Have you considered Rice University? It's great for engineering and generous with merit aid.

She REALLY likes Rice and is going to apply, but they'll have to be very generous to make it work out.

What is IIT?

Northeastern typically will offer around 16k per year for similar stats. That still leaves 25K on the table unless the OP's D will also qualify for need based aid.

ebeeeee,

No, she won't likely qualify for much (if anything) need based.

I can't turn my back on Florida's Bright Futures scholarship with free tuition to U of Florida or another instate school....unless I can find an EQUAL or hopefully BETTER offer elsewhere.

I assume IIT = Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago). They have excellent merit aid.
