My S received an e-mail this afternoon with his financial award. He received a small merit scholarship $5,000. It doesn't say whether it is renewable or not. Any ideas?

daughter received the same email, and the same scholarship the other day. you should call the admissions or the financial aid office to find out if it is renewable. I have not called USD to ask yet, but my guess is that it is renewable for 4 years, and they may have to maintain a min gpa. daughter also received scholarships from Santa Clara and LMU, and when I called both of those schools, both said they were renewable for 4 years. but, call USD to be sure.

ChciagoBear: If you access the mysandiego portal, and look in the financial requirements box, you will find a link to the renewable conditions for scholarships. The scholarships are renewable for 4 years with some conditions and one disclaimer.

BayAreaMom: My son also has applied to LMU and SCU, as well as USD. We have been to SCU twice now, including an overnighter for him. He is also goign to overnight at USD. SCU has the better package so far; still waiting on USD (our link is not working). How are you rating those three so far?

I checked MySanDiego for my son’s admissions status. It shows it’s under committee review but under financial award, it show he’s been awarded Alcala Scholarship. Does this mean he’s admitted? What is Alcala Scholarship? I’ve heard of Presidential and Trusteed but I can’t find any information on this. Is this one time or annually renewable?

I actually received my acceptance in the mail today. Congratulations to mjplayer because the Alcala Scholarship is for $20,000 a year! It is renewable every year and according to the letter I received it can be used for 5 years if the student is an engineering major. I also received a letter inviting me to apply to the Honors program, perhaps this is an invite for all Alcala scholars?

That’s awesome! I called the admissions office and they said we should be receiving the details in the mail. I thought the Trusteed Scholarship was the highest award but this will definitely help with the finances!

Does it list your merit scholarships under your financial aid award on the MySanDiego portal?

Yes, it does. Work study and the government loans are also available…the whole package.

Checked my finaid and saw the Alcala Scholarship also…20000 a year is pretty exciting!!!

My S received a letter from the Office of Admissions detailing the scholarship. It is renewable- asuming you keep a 3.0

How do you go about checking your financial aid status in the mysandiegoportal? I already have logged in many times but I can’t find the place to see whether or not I received a scholarship.

Once you’re logged in, go to USD Admission Application Menu, then Fall 2010 link.
At the top of the page, there will be Financial Aid tab. From there, navigate over to 2010-2011 award year and look under the Award Overview tab. Good luck.

I can’t see a Financial Aid tab, does this mean I probably did not receive a scholarship? I am a 4.0 student (weighted) with a 2000 SAT and plenty of ECs.

EDIT: And I have taken 8 APs.

I don’t see anything. I haven’t received any postage mail though yet.

I have a 3.7 unweighted GPA. 35 ACT. All honors courses. Excellent ECs, soccer captain, and countless hours of consistent volunteering and working…

TAL, I still don’t see anything on my portal but I got a notification on Friday inside my acceptance folder saying I received a 10K scholarship.

Ah okay. Congrats!! I’m anxious for this mailing lol.
