@JeJeJe - you mentioned that all the private school require the CSS. Only SFCM and Berklee required the CSS for us. NEC and the New School did not require the CSS - only the FAFSA.
Fully agree. This is amazing. As @akapiratequeen mentioned this is an award given to 1-2 students each year whereas the 2 Cs give it too all who make it in through the doors. As such this is a HUGE achievement! Well done and kudos to @akapiratequeen’s kid!
Omg guys thank you!
Tripletmama——— My son didn’t applied to The New School or NEC so I didn’t know that they don’t require CSS. However, Peabody / JHU and MSM requires as well as Juilliard require CSS Profile for the first undergrad applicants.
I’m not positive but I think Curtis is free for accepted students. Since the tuition is free, the $10k award may be to cover living expenses. In that case, it is quite significant to get free tuition AND an additional $10k! That’s impressive.
My S received the Premier Young Artist award from IU Jacobs School of Music.
I can’t find any info on how many they give out annually.
@leejay22 - thanks! what is the $$ range of the Premier Young Artist award?
@tripletmama - I don’t know! In searching, I’ve seen $5000 mentioned but he actually received $17,500 annually.
@leejay22 What instrument does your son play? Did he audition this year?
@leejay22 - I went and looked in the one place that I could think of digging up the info on scholarships. At both my D’s UG and grad school, you can typically find info online in the magazine/newsletter for fall. I suspect many schools have these to promote their school by “bragging” about the students and alumni. If you go on the Jacobs site under News and click on anything, you should see the word FanFare. In that area I found the magazine IUMusic (also a pdf on Admissions too). However I could only find the 2012 fall info and then a 2013 one on-line…and then I stopped looking figuring that should get you closer to what you are looking for! Of course you could always call and ask. I did find this little nugget (below). The names of the awards may have changed over time…or not. I don’t remember Premier…but it sounds good…and may have been on the next page but I stopped reading.
Here is an example of what I found. If you can find more relevant info (last year) it may be helpful. Also the info below probs includes grad students so Premier could be an UG only award.
Eight Jacobs Scholars and six Jacobs
Fellows began their studies in fall 2012 at
the Indiana University Jacobs School of
Music. Selected from a large pool of incoming
students, they are the recipients of the most
prestigious and substantial scholarship awards
Also it’s always hard to find stats … but here they are on-line…you just need to dig. These are old but probably still relevant. Again if you dig at any university sometimes you can come up with this info (just don’t dig in the obvious place admissions…dig in promotional places where the school is promoting itself).

Unicorn alert: a friend of S’, an accomplished classical trombonist, scored a full tuition scholarship to Bard.
Been meaning to post to this thread. Last year a child of a friend received $25K to USC in jazz. Parlayed a bigger scholarship from Frost to up USC’s original amount.
Thanks for the info @bridgenail I wonder if they offer more spots to graduate students thus the higher enrollment? Interesting statistics.
@bridgenail - thanks for the info! I wonder if Common Data Sets also include info. like this?
@akapiratequeen - I LOVE your unicorn alert! :bz (I couldn’t find a unicorn so a bumble bee will have to suffice).
@Lendless - Thanks for the info from USC. Just a few more days hopeful USC parents! Hang in there. ~X(
At some point when I’m not too stressed, I will summarize all of these into an easily read list. For those that want to remain anonymous - just send me a DM.
Last week, DePauw awarded me a music award of $3000 per year for my video audition.
@albertsax - My son is a bassoonist. He was accepted into IU in November. He auditioned in January, accepted into Jacobs soon after and heard about scholarship last week by email.
@leejay22 Thanks for the info!
Not that these are set in stone (as in, might be negotiated higher next month), but here are a few numbers for smaller, lesser-known programs: (these are all just music scholarship offers for a transfer student)
8K for Chapman
$6900 for Cal State Fullerton (more than full tuition)
17K for Concordia Irvine
5K for Cal Baptist
4K for SDSU (for a student living at home)
3 years ago, my son got a 17K music scholarship at U Rochester for a non-music major freshman, fwiw.
Seems there are Bassoonists or parents here. I am a Bassoonist mom. 2019. Hoping for good financial aid… debating between UMich and USC right now. PM me if you are a Bassoonist. Where will you go? What about aid??
Just got offered 4500 a year in saxophone scholarships by South Carolina.
