Oh gosh, I didn't realize we had hijacked the thread.Duh! My apologies!

Thread is not hijacked, just expanded :-) It's good to know we're not the only ones in this situation.

Good. I always feel bad for the OP when I digress.

I know full well my D may change her mind again about what she wants to do. That is why I am pleased she is interested in a school that will prepare her for more than just what she is interested in today. And menlopark's S didn't find what he was looking for ... but then ultimately did, which means he didn't make a mistake with his transfer. Defyinggravity, if you feel moved to transfer, it's worth getting the wheels rolling. You may find that you aren't so interested by May, but it certainly doesn't hurt to explore the possiblilities.

The merit issue is definitely important, as is need based aid if necessary. These factors and a later notification date (and often even more selective application process) make the transfer game tough on all involved. We definitely need all the support we can get!

"You may find that you aren't so interested by May"
EXACTLY! S felt he had committed himself to transfering early on, but by May he had found some equally smart kids in the engineering school, and made a lot of new friends. He just didn't reconsider in May, whether he REALLY wanted to transfer.
