Anyone know of merit $$$ and/or aid in general for OOS transfer students??

Hi Folks, it's me, Meatballs again, a transfer hopeful.

As a result of the postings on my other thread, I've decided to go ahead and make another thread, but this time about money!! and hope to get more great insightful information from experienced parents on here who's gone through this before.

I'll be doing transfer applications real soon and would like to find some good schools to apply to. First off, I'm a resident of California, but I would REALLY like to get out of this state for the next 2 years, although I will be applying to a few in-state publics (as you know we have a good public school system) and a few privates as well.

My stats are easy: I'm a 2nd year, I have around 65 units at my community college, my overall GPA is 3.82 at the moment. I'm studying Accounting. I'm open to all suggestions, geographically, I'm open to the other 49 states (seriously!) but prefer somewhere in the midwest, northeast or northwest, but all suggestions will be considered seriously.

So far some of the schools I'm looking at are: Gonzaga University, UCSB, UCSD, Pepperdine (looong shot), USC (also a looong shot and a BIG maybe), Wisconsin, Iowa, Syracuse, Case Western Reserve, TCU, Villanova, Alabama and Colorado.

Some of the above I know are stingy with aid for transfers so it is just a tentative list.

Any other help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Check out this thread:

And go to the Transfer Students subforum and do a Search for merit scholarships.

I wonder if Tulane discontinued its merit for transfer students, because I don’t see any on their website…

UMich limits their scholarships for CC students who went to Mich CC’s.
"COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRANSFER STUDENTS:

A limited number of University scholarships are offered specifically to students transferring to the University of Michigan from community colleges in Michigan. See the U-M Office of Financial Aid Scholarship Listing for more information."

Miss St does give merit scholarships to CC students from any state. These scholarships are limited and are competitive. But, with Miss St, I know that the earlier you apply, the better your chances… :)

Heres $$ for CC transfer students - even for OOS students.

Personally, I think just being able to get the ** Community College Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship ** is a big plus, because Miss St’s in-state tuition is quite cheap (about $5k per year).

I found this and thought I’d share with others who might have the same need. It’s often very hard for CC students to get any merit $ when transferring to a 4 year University. So, I was happy to find these below listed scholarships

Please, note…

 1. that some scholarships can be stacked and some cannot be stacked.
 2. that only some scholarships are available for OOS students.
 3. Miss State is kind of “first come/first serve” when it comes to scholarship apps, so the earlier you apply, the better your chances.

FYI…Mississippi State is the flagship of the state.

I have never been on the Miss St campus (I will be there in Nov), but several friends’ kids go there and really like it. The campus is lovely, the architecture is classic red brick/columns type, and there are many very strong programs there, such as engineering, pre-health, pre-vet (it has the vet school), math and sciences. It probably has a good business school, too, but I’m not familiar with that (yet). LOL

Here’s a link for transfer info for the U of MN:

I’m not sure about particular scholarships available, but research thru this link. Their OOS tuition and fees are low, about 15k/year, which is much lower than the other Big 10 schools.
