Merit Scholarships?

Is anyone here the beneficiary of a merit scholarship to Colgate? Or anyone know to what extent Colgate offers merit scholarships?

Colgate does not give merit scholarships, other than the Alumni Memorial Scholarships (AMS) that are given to the top 200 applicants.

However, if they want you, their assessment of your “need” can be quite generous. They offered D more need-based aid than anybody else–she went elsewhere for a better fit school (need + merit made offer comparable)

Colgate doesn’t offer merit scholarships at all, not even to Alumni Memorial Scholars. The only difference between AMS and regular financial aid packages is that AMS packages are only grants.

for AMS w/grant- is it possible to “negotiate” for more than originally offered- right now the money will be …tight

I negotiated my aid last year and was not an AMS, and Colgate was more than willing to reconsider. I got some extra money, but they’ll only reconsider if you have a legitamate reason to ask for more money (aka recent change in financial circumstances, or possibly overestimating your income on fafsa or css).
