I’m struggling to determine which is going to better prepare me for medical school. Any thoughts?

Case Western for medical school prep--

Visit both because they are very, very different. OSU is a better school in most fields with much greater opportunities.
(this is based on USNWR)

I agree, Case undoubtedly has a strong science program. I decided against Case, however, because it lacks strength in other programs should I (God forbid) change my mind about med-school. Also, I am looking for a more broad, liberal arts-style education because I have many interests outside of the sciences. Miami and OSU have vast amounts of possibilities. Thanks for your input, though.

That's a hard one. Personally, I'd choose OSU. For me, I could live at home so it'd be cheaper. And I love miami (I too applied and am in for honors) but OSU is great in so many areas, you'd never run out of options. I guess it's what you want (I'm headed to Case myself most likely)

OSUforME:

Thanks--I am quite familiar with both, and you're right...they are very different. But how easy is it to take advantage of these opportunities @ OSU? It is so big I worry I can get the attention, research opportunities, and connections I will need.

I feel quite comfortable at Miami...it is a lot like my high school. At what point do I draw the line between the search for a comfortable fit and the search for best undergraduate education possible? Is there that significant a difference between the education I would receive through Miami Honors or OSU Honors?

hijack alert-------Hi BigCam...wanted to let you know that DD accepted the Batelle Scholarship today, she got an email letting her know that the other winner also accepted. I know this is not great news for you but if you are like us...we need all the heads up we can get. Good luck to you. From your posts I am going to assume that you will have many doors open to you as far as research, etc. goes.

I think if you are in the honors program at OSU the opportunities will be there. However, if you like Miami, I'm not sure how you would like OSU. My high school is exactly like Miami too, and for that reason I didn't apply. However, I won't be attending OSU either so take my opinion with a grain of salt. OSU did alot for me, such as Maximus and National Merit, which leads me to believe the opportunities are there. At OSU though, you will need to pursue them, compared to a smaller school.
Miami is a more homogeneous school, and I'm sure you could succeed there as well.

Momnipotent--thank you very much for letting me know. Although it's disappointing, it's nice knowing I won't necessarily be scrambling to make accomadations at the end of April! I still havn't yet decided what I'm going to do...so maybe I will meet your daughter in the future. Regardless, tell her congratulations and good luck for me!

By the way, is she interested in Honors housing next year? I think I'd like to live in Taylor if I end up at OSU...

OSUforME:

Yes, I agree. Miami's student body is quite homogeneous...I don't think I would go to Miami had I not had the Honors opportunity. It's nice that I know a lot of people down there, but at the same time I see the benefits and necessities of branching out. Scores of individuals, however, do not try to mold themselves to that image. The honors students, actually, are very diverse. In fact, that J Crew U stereotype is a favorite topic of the Honors students to laugh about. It was a very enlightened, diverse, and fun group of people.

It's almost like a best of both worlds type situation: it has a relatively big overall enrollment, with intimate class sizes and close ties with professors in the Honors program, but at the same time there is a very comfortable "bubble" type setting. There are many opportunities for research and studying abroud and such as well.

All in all, I think I'm also leaning toward Miami because I would like to come back to Columbus @ OSU for medical school...and 8 years is a long time to spend at a school!
