Congrats Maris…my daughter was accepted too so now her winter break won’t be stressful. We just hope that going ED doesn’t hurt us with financial aid/merit.
My son applied EA, but I firmly believe that ED admits should be rewarded with the most merit-aid. I think the school should show the same level of commitment that the ED applicant showed. Some argue that schools will be less generous to kids who make the ED commitment because there’s no need to entice them. If this is true, its in very poor taste. JMO
I would agree and they said it doesn’t. That being said, they do have you because it is hard to break an ED for financial reasons.
She did not receive any scholarship or financial aid information via snail mail or online but I called admissions this morning and they said that those letters will be sent out late next week. Congrats to your daughter ccm2269. Yes, the stress relief for our family is tremendous and its great to see her so happy! But, I’m also hoping that we won’t be negatively impacted (financially) by going ED. I’m a little worried about that, but I guess there’s no way to know for sure.
We are crossing our fingers that the package will at least make the cost the same as the other state schools as Miami is about 6k more than OSU, OU etc. That being said, it is her very top school so as parents, we are stuck. A friend of ours at a LAC in central Ohio said that Miami does a good job giving merit aid to ED because even though it is tough breaking an ED contract, kids will do it and it has a negative impact on the school as word gets out that ED is a bad thing and the school counts on the yield
That’s good to hear. Fingers crossed that we both get fair merit offers next week!
Did your letter say anything about honors? There was nothing on-line but was wondering if snail mail letter had more details
No mention of honors either. Snail mail letter was a little longer but gave no additional information. At least not for my kiddo.
No matter what, it is great to be accepted to their top school. Our son is a junior in college 7.5 hours away so we are loving a two hour trip.
Anyone have any updates on when 1st round EA decisions will start to come out ?
I am hoping they release 1st round of acceptances before the Christmas holiday.
Two years ago the letters went out on 12/18.
Thanks that is helpful to know so hoping next week
Marismom: did you hear/receive anything yet on FA?
@ccm2269 not yet but hoping letters will be mailed tomorrow so we know something before they head back to school.
We saw nothing on the myMiami portal so don’t know if bad sign or not
Received merit scholarship today. Letter is dated December 22nd. @ccm2269
Good to hear. We seem to be one day behind you so hopefully we will hear Friday. Might I ask, were you pleased with the amount?
Yes, very pleased. $15,500/yr. Definitely feel better about ED now. Good luck to your daughter!
@MarisMom That is a very good merit award. What were the stats, if you don’t mind me asking?
Check out this thread: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/miami-university-ohio/1934266-miami-oh-ea-2017-p1.html I believe my response is on page 16 but lots of feedback from others as well. @Janniegirl
