“Michael D. Smith, 45, [as the new Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences] will oversee Harvard College and the PhD programs. At Harvard, where he has taught since 1992, he is considered a devoted teacher and an affable colleague.”

We can now be confident that Harvard College will be in good hands. (An apology in advance to my Harvard friends who, for at least a year, will have to endure my numerous bad jokes.)

harvard also recently hired princeton prof robert darnton to head its library system. and harvard law school already has a princeton grad running its show, to widespread acclaim. there's been a fair bit of movement both ways between the schools' administrations of late.
