I agree with Alexandre. We have a limit that we can spend and to go over that is risky for us. In fact, we stretched when we made the limit. So if it were our child, we could cover that amount and are willing to do so regardless of whether he can go for free somewhere or he needs to full contribution we can make. But if there is a gap, there has to be really good reason to pay the amount out of budget. The problem with college is that it’s not just for one year, the costs tend to go up each year, and things do happen that are not anticipated that can cost money. When you are paying more than you really should be anyways, any problem can blow up into a disaster.

So the OP needs to get a good read as to how his parents feel about coming up with the difference in cost between the two choices.

Sorry I will clarify this one more time, my mistake I was awarded $40,000 in scholarship over 4 years, in other words $10,000 A YEAR.

Yes, I am IN STATE for UF

The reason I will essentially get a full ride at UF, is because I have bright futures + Florida pre-paid plus some other scholarship money and it worked out that I even have money left over. So Alexandre, it covers tuition, but with the money left over it can be applied to room and board.

I don’t really think the specifics matter, but for all intents and purposes UF is a nominal fee for only room and board, while Michigan will probably be $120,000 when including room and board, and deducted from the scholarship.

Michigan is not worth $80,000-$100,000 more than Florida. Save the money and use it to fund the graduate school of your dreams.

“Michigan is not worth $80,000-$100,000 more than Florida.”

Really, no school is. Perhaps HYPSM, but that is it…

Definitely UF
The price difference is pretty substantial and the fact that you are considering UF shows you have interest in it

Hopes2b, if Michigan only gave you a $10k scholarship, it will cost you more than $120k over four years…more like $170k. As many have rightly pointed out, no university is worth that much more than Florida, which is an excellent university in its own right. The only way you can justify going to Michigan is if your folks are very well off and can easily afford sending you to Michigan. If that is not the case, and your parents will find it challenging to afford the cost difference, I would go to Florida.
