Yeah, but we sure are having fun beating it.

IMO you should choose Michigan, you like it more and you said you can afford it.

That’s interesting… :)

At least they agree with themselves.

Here are some questions you should ask yourself!

Where do you want to live when you graduate?
Alabama, not not as academically strong as UM, of course, still has a really good reputation in the South, and the alumni network here is very strong. However, if you want to stay north or on the East Coast, a Michigan degree is definitely more prestigious.

Do you plan on pursuing a masters degree?
If so, then your undergrad school’s ranking really does not matter that much. Employers will look at where you got your masters, not your undergrad. And since masters can be expensive (I know UT’s MBA program is 70k a year), I would say go to Alabama to save money.

Where do you fit in better?
This is a really important question to ask yourself! Both schools are good academically, so it’s important to consider which school you could see yourself enjoying more. I don’t know too much about Michigan’s student life because I’ve never visited, but when I was thinking about applying there, the impression I got from the reps and such I talked to was that it was sort of an elitist-type school…I much prefer the extreme friendliness of everybody at Alabama, and the fun, laid-back vibe the school has going on. If you’re a pretty chill, fun-loving guy, then go Bama. If you’re more serious and studious, go Michigan. But I’m sure either personality could find their place at either school, since both schools are large and diverse!

How important are class size and professor relationships to you?
At Alabama, the teachers are SO accessible. I even met the dean when I toured there! At most similar large universities, it’s difficult for even students to get a meeting with the dean! The faculty is really focused on forming relationships with their students, and some host dinners and BBQ’s at their homes for their students. And your classes will be really small if you do the honors program. My friend didn’t have a class with more than 25 people his entire four years at Bama, and he didn’t even do all honors classes.
