Hi, I am an international student studying abroad. I am graduating in few weeks and I have some questions regarding waitlist. As my title suggests, I got waitlisted for all three schools which were all my top choice. I got accepted into UIUC and University of Southern Cali. I heard that in order to get off Emory's waitlist, I should show interest in them by visiting their campus or sth like that. Even though I live pretty close to Georgia(I live in FL) I don't think I can visit Emory for campus tour. What I did so far was I wrote a short email to Michigan and how Michigan is my first choice but this was before I got waitlisted. For all three schools I asked my highschool headmaster to write rec letter, specifically indicating to Wash U that I would definitely attend if accepted. Do you think there is something more I can do to enhance my chance of getting off the waitlist? And do you guys think visiting Emory would improve my chance? Also.. I am sorry if this sounds a little stuck-up but I really thought I would get into Michigan.. I really don't understand why they waitlisted me. I am kinda upset.. Any idea what U Mich has in mind? Thanks for reading!! :)

Perhaps they found you a bit insincere saying that Michigan was your first choice but at the same time you would definitely attend WUSTL if accepted. :-)

UMich might have waitlisted you because you’re overqualified and they thought you wouldn’t accept. that happened to me at northeastern and elon (*** right?). they both ended up taking me off the wait list and giving me almost a full ride.

i think visiting the schools might help. but keep in mind USC is amazing too! you can always transfer after freshman year too.

There are many reasons why top students are waitlisted. It doesn’t mean a school like Michigan suffers from the so called “Tufts Syndrome.”

You, sir, have the pleasure of hosting my 400th post.

that’s why i said “might have”.
