Hi guys! I was accepted to Michigan last week and am seriously considering attending. It's one of my top choices. The only thing is...I've never been to the campus. I live in California and I'm hoping to visit during my spring break, but until than, can anyone give me an idea of how the facilities are? How are the class rooms? The dorms? The gym? The libraries? How's the food and dining halls? How far are most dining halls from the dorms? Is there a student center?

Also, if anyone knows anything about the baseball stadium and could let me know how the facilities are, that would be really helpful. Thanks!

Another question (if you could possibly answer) - what do most Michigan students do on the weekends? I'm definitely excited about the football games, but outside of that what do most students spend their free time doing? I love to be outside (would love to hike, kayak etc.).

If anyone could help me I would appreciate it a LOT! Thanks so much!

Congrats to all those accepted, and to those who haven't heard yet, just be patient - you'll know soon enough! Best of luck to everyone!

The facilities (classrooms, university buildings, labs etc…) are state-of-the-art and well maintained, as are the campus grounds. The Business and Engineering programs have amazing facilities. Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics also have impressive quarters. Overall, Michigan does not have a gorgeous campus, but it is nice and impressive.

Dorms at Michigan range from good to average. Dorm food is average but there is good variety on and off campus.

On weekends, students do a variety of things other than attend sporting events. There are cultural, social and artistic events taking place on campus constantly, such as:

-World-class performances held at Hill Auditorium
-Political leaders presenting policy and opinion pieces to students and faculty
-Readings by literary figures
-Art exhibits at the museum

Of course, there are plenty of parties off campus.

Ann Arbor itself has many quaint hangouts such as restaurants, cafes, stores etc…There are your typical venues such as bars, nightclubs, malls and movie theaters too.

Detroit suburbs have many great clubs, concerts, museums, sporting events (Red Wings and Pistons are ok most years), decent restaurants etc…

Finally, once in a while students spend a weekend in Chicago, which is easy and relatively cheap to get to.

In terms of facilities (classroom/labs/computer labs etc)
Ross = Amazing
ChemE/MatSciE/Civil/Mech = Somewhat old but reasonable
CSE/EECS = Nice
IOE = Nice
Nuclear = Old but impressive facility
Aero = Nice
LSA = Old and outdated

If you like to be outside and active you’ll like the arboretum that’s a short walk away, that’s one of my favorite things to do on weekends when the weather is nice, and even when it isn’t.

Bearcats, I disagree about LSA. Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics have excellent facilities. Econ is not bad either. The remaining departments definitely need a face lift. Anthropology/LSA building should be leveled and rebuilt!
