perhaps take a look at Creighton . . .
A 34 ACT at Pitt will get you anywhere from $10-15,000 per year most likely.
If I’m reading the Kansas stuff correctly, an out-of-stater can get the “KU Excellence” award, which knocks you down to to in-state tuition. KU seems comparable (if not better?) in quality to Butler, Creighton, Denver, Dayton, etc. Obviously bigger (19K undergrads) but considerably smaller than Wisco and Minn.
For figure skating, you should look hard at DU. Not many colleges have two sheets of ice with another handful within shouting distance. I know a bunch of people who have skated out of DU (not students) and it is a really nice facility. The entire rec center if very nice with an Olympic sized (freezing cold) pool, separate gyms for gymnastics and volleyball, climbing walls, and outside facilities for lax, soccer, tennis.
Of course the school has other things to offer too, with a great music school, engineering, business, and international relations. Two recent Secretaries of State attended and often lecture there.
Which DU are you talking about???
U of Denver
Trinity University in San Antonio.
University of Rochester is another excellent private school that offers meaningful merit aid for applicants with her stats. (Despite its high sticker price, our daughter’s merit award made it similarly priced to our in-state flagship. Although, admittedly, I think the merit awards have gotten a little less generous there since D applied four years ago.)
Giving this a bump to see if any new ideas have emerged…
Merit aid thus far from Butler, Drake, SLU, Bradley, Kansas.
That’s great! Those are all awesome places. (I’m partial to SLU, myself!)
I know you probably aren’t looking for more colleges anymore, but in case anyone finds this thread later, Truman State is the right size and has guaranteed merit that would bring cost for tuition, room and board, and fees down to 16K. Their ACT range is 25-30, which is similar to other schools on this list. UG enrollment: 6000.
It’s been interesting to see the uniformity in the merit aid! Almost every school has offered $23,000 for merit. I guess there is a formula that they all use based on her GPA and ACT scores! Not sure if there will be additional need-based aid forthcoming.
@LiterateGuy1766… funny you should mention the uniformity in merit money. We’ve been saying the same thing in our house because several schools came in with $28K/yr, renewable. VERY similar stats as your D: 3.76 GPA, 34 ACT, and will have 9 AP classes.
A school we found to be surprisingly generous: Juniata in Huntingdon, PA. They came in with $28K Quinter scholarship, and then turned around and offered an additional $2,500 Top Scholars award and $5,500 Heritage award. All figures are per year and are renewable.
Per Juniata’s Strategic Plan, which is available on their website, they’re actively recruiting out of state students.
Just a thought…
