Mid-Year Report

How heavily do college weigh mid-year reports? Obviously if you have straight F's it is cause for concern, but do college normally CARE very much if your grades are just maintained?

I guess it depends. For someone with heavy courseload throughout grades 9-11 and with steady grades it should not matter. But if you took 1 AP last year and are taking 5 APs now, then strong grades can prove that you are as good as other kids who took 6 APs in high school (without mid-year report they can only compare you to applicants with 1-2 coursses). Or if you GPA is borderline, then you can push it above the cut-off, or land below it, etc.
