<p>Havard, Princeton, Amherst, Swarthmore and the like appear to have lots of affluent students, and a substantial number or lower-income ones. However, not too many students from the middle-class. </p>
<p>Can someone list which private schools have a strong middle-class base, in other words, the majority are from the middle-class?</p>
<p>It was reported a few months ago in the New York Times that many flagship state universities offer merit-based scholarships to middle-class kids, so they are full of students from the middle-class. By the same reasoning, you expect (don't know if it is a fact or not) that private schools offering merit-based scholarships such as Emory, WashU, CalTech, etc, may have a bit more representation from the middle class.</p>
