My high school district offers middle college at the local community college. I am currently a sophomore and you can take it Junior and senior year in replacement of actual high school. I'm not exactly sure how it works though. They say it's an alternative to high school. You take high school English and social studies, but in addition you take other courses that you can get high school credits and college credits for as well. Is middle college only if you plan on going to community college afterwards? After taking middle college senior year and graduating, is it just like regular high school? Can you go to UC or state schools? How does it work? How does it show up on college apps?

So I’m guessing you’re from California… my local community college also offers Middle College.

It’s basically like regular high school, like you graduate at the same time, and can walk with your class. And yeah, you can go to UC/state schools. Depending on what classes you’re eligible to take, you can use those as college credits - useful because UC/CSU are overcrowded.

I’m not really sure how it shows up on college apps. I’m also not sure exactly how it works, either. I know a few people who went but they don’t talk about it much…

My son and I really looked into this because he was seriously considering it jr year, then again sr year. Yes, you take hs English and SS at the college, then with the rest of your time you can take any college classes you want. It is NOT just for those planning to attend CC … you apply as a freshman to UCs, CSUs, privates and any other publics, just as if you graduated from hs. You would list college courses on the college application under “College Courses” … the same as a regular high school student would if they took it concurrently.

Do you know what math courses you’d take? Do you take any at all? Can you take a math course as college credit? This year i am in algebra 3/4 which is what you need to graduate. So is that it? Am i done with math if i go on to middle college? Thanks

You aren’t required to take any specific college courses, just the English and SS classes (in order to get your hs diploma). If you’ve already finished your math requirement to graduate hs, you are done with math forever if you want. If you decide to take more math at the CC, then you would get college credit.
