Middlebury Language Schools Transfer Credit?

I was wondering if I would be able to get credit for other universities if I took part in one of middlebury's language schools.

Probably depends on the university. Why don't you check with the registrar at the university in question?

You should be able to get 9 credits transfered for the 7-week language programs. (Maybe more credits for the 9-week schools.) I attended the Italian Language School two summers ago and it was easy to get 9 credits transferred over to Oberlin College.

Before you go to the Language School, you should check with your school to make sure they will take the credits, although I don't see why this would be a problem.

Sorry, to hijack the thread, but I was wondering girlinbraids what the immersion program is like? Is it as good as it sounds? And how competitive is it, as my friend and I are quite intent on attending next summer?

Hi qwilde,

Sorry for the somewhat late response. I don't check these forums very often.

At the Italian school, I thought the immersion program was amazing. You really do speak your target language all the time. That being said, I did hear English spoken a couple of times, especially by those in their first year of Italian. The Language Pledge is what you make of it. If you wanted, you could get by just speaking the target language at meals and in class, and could talk to your friends on the phone and your roommate in English the rest of the time. However, if you truly commit to the pledge, the Middlebury program is the perfect place to do it, because you're surrounded by other people in the same position. I spoke practically no English during my 7 weeks there, whereas I spoke it all the time when I was abroad in Italy.

I'm not sure how competitive it is, and I'm sure it also depends on the language you're taking. I applied to the Italian School in December and was admitted within 6 weeks. The sooner you apply, the more likely you'll get in, as they have rolling admissions. I honestly don't think that any of the schools are very competitive though, as long as you apply while there are still spots open.
