<p>im interested in going into the nursing field mostly as a midwife. what is the process that you go through to become a midwife? how are job prospects?</p>
<p>To become a CNM (certified nurse-midwife) you would first become an RN and then pursue post-graduate work in midwifery through a program accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwifery (ACNM), and then pass their national test. You could also become a CM (certified midwife) if you had a bachelor’s degree in a different health field, and did the same post-graduate work (and passed the test).</p>
<p>You can also be a CPM (certified professional midwife) by following the regulations and requirements of whatever state you seek to be licensed in (about 1/2 the states do this). You can be a nurse, or not be one, to be a CPM. </p>
<p>Most CNMs and CMs work in hospitals and birth centers, most CPMs work in birth centers or attend homebirths.</p>
<p>As with “regular” nursing, there are many paths to your goal.</p>
