Minnesota vs Penn State vs Maryland

I’ve been accepted to all three of these schools for a Political Science major (still waiting to hear from UVA and UMich) and I’m honestly torn on where to go. I love the environment at Minnesota, but I get in-state tuition at UMD. Any advice?

like warm weather:)

Go in state to MD unless you can attend these other schools for close to the same price. UMD has a great reputation academically (are you eligible for the honors programs? If so, it’s a no brainer.) and because of the location near DC - which is internship central - it’s a great place to study political science and get involved in the political process in a variety of ways. Faculty are well-connected too, which can be useful. Don’t underestimate the impact of weather either - it’s a lot easier to push your boundaries and check out new things when it isn’t dark and freezing cold for a good chunk of the year. And graduating with little or no debt is a gift you can give yourself that will provide benefits for years to come. If you want to get away from MD, plan to study abroad for a year or go to grad school out of state.

Yes, if you are in-state for Maryland I really see no reason to go OOS to Minnesota or Penn State. It’s an excellent school.

Unless money is no object, then it’s pretty much a no-brainer.

UMD is in the best location in terms of being able to observe and study politics; if it is the least expensive (which is likely if you are a Maryland resident), it seems like the obvious choice over the other schools.

If umd is the least expensive and considering its location, it really wouldn’t be a no-brainer. If you’re a viable candidate for Umich and uva, then hopefully you got into/applied to the honors program.

Unless money is entirely a non-factor for your family, I’d go in-state.
