So I'm a freshman in the honors college at a not amazing, not terrible state school (Oregon State) and plan to major in some area of engineering (possible civil). I was somewhat torn between doing engineering and something business/econ for undergrad, but I figure you can certainly go to business grad school with an engineering undergrad but not vis versa. Either way (MBA or engineering grad school) I'm aiming to get into a top program. I'm considering adding a minor in math, physics, econ etc. or maybe even a major if I can pull it off - I'm not sure what area exactly, but I find econ and physics both very interesting.

So.... after that (possibly excessive) background, would adding a major or minor help my chances at getting into a top MBA/Engineering grad program? I know people go to all different schools and get into top programs, but I also know my chances coming from an alright state school are not as good as someone coming out of an Ivy, top LAC, etc. - what else could I do to overcome that and maximize my chances for a top grad school?

Thanks in advance!
