Hey! I wanted to minor in either spanish or french at College Park, if I did this would a minor be enough to help me learn the language fluently, or would I have to be a Spanish or French major?

D1 is has a language minor and is fluent in the language (she’s also lived in the language house for 2 yrs and will be there as a senior this year).
It’s all about how much time and effort you put into it, and how motivated you are to learn the language fully, not just enough to get by in classes.

You want to become fluent? Hmm… well here’s something to help you start :P

You should definitely study abroad. Classes are great and certainly necessary, but you can’t truly learn a language unless you are immersed in it. Currently I am studying abroad in Italy. I studied Italy for 6 years in middle school and high school. I’ve learned more Italian in the past 3-4 months than in all 6 years of studying it.

I agree, study abroad. I plan on studying Chinese all throughout college (every semester) and study abroad to China (although I really really really want to study abroad to Japan…).

Thanks! I really want to learn a second language I think it would really help me, and @plumazal I figured out what u said lol, and yeah I am willing to put in the effort outside of class because its something I want to do.
