Thanks so much for all that info! It definitely sounds more office related than I originally thought, but I guess that makes sense because you’re a CPT.

So, I officially know more about YOUR job than I do my brother’s! He’s an MI Lt. and he doesn’t tell us anything! I believe he’ll be going to Afghanistan in the summer of 2012, but with the Army, you just never know.

Anyway, thanks again for the info! Good luck with everything, including the grandkids ;)

Ok so I feel like a COMPLETE idiot asking this… But what is “beast”? Is it the first week @ west point, the first year? Also, in the end, is it all worth it??

Beast is the “pronunciation” for BCT - Basic Cadet Training. It is the first summer you are there, 6 weeks, before school starts. It’s a lot of PT and military training. I sure hope it is worth it in the end cause I’ll be doing it in 6 months! :)

So the summer right after your senior year in high school? When you say “before school starts” does that mean that the school year has some normal college attributes as well? I’m only 17 but I have the opportunity to get a Congressional nomination & I speak 3 languages & have a 4.1 GPA… So my family thinks I would be a good candidate is encouraging me to look inti WP - this is me attempting to learn mOre. Im pretty girly, I like looking pretty & having nice hair, is WP going to strip me of my individuality?

Attending any military academy requires an extensive commitment on your part and attending because it is what your parents are encouraging without fully understanding what you are signing onto, it a recipe for failure.

Not exactly sure what you mean by “oppportunity to get a NOM”…since there is a selection process that everyone applying has to follow.

And the older I get, the scarier this is. Two weeks, and I get CTLT cadets. Class of '13 and '14. And I’m a Company Commander. Good luck to the Class of 2016!

Hi! Class of 2016 new cadet. This thread was very helpful! I’m glad to say I now have useful tips from a reliable source to use for Beast! I’ll use a lot of this knowledge I gained. Thank you for posting this.

I am a current member of the cow (2015) class and I came across this thread on my phone. My computer is with the wonderful goldcoats wizards for repaor(my fault). We jusy camr back from summer leave yesterday and will receive our new cadets into the academic year companies in just an hour. I must say this whole thread is a good read and full of good advice. The basics never change. Bzzzt, if you’re still around, it’s really interesting to track your progression.

Nothing major has changed around here. They’ve closed a barracks for renovation (this will be a recurring theme as the average barracks age is 83 years), so all classes have three man rooms with few exceptions. It isn’t as bad as it may sound. I can personally say it’s the best choice I’ve ever made to come here.

For those of you looking at this thread in 2017, I wrote a bit about what my experience was like coming out of Beast as part of the class of 2020, and the link to my reply is below.
Probably the biggest change for girls starting with my class is that we also have to take Boxing as a Plebe. It’s honestly a great class and while I was very average at it, I enjoyed learning.
Also, the risk of getting a frat board is a lot higher as a female, so relationships whether friendly or something more should always be treated in a professional light.
Let me know if there’s any other questions I can answer- I’ll be around for another three years
