Minority

I come from a Cuban background, does vanderbilt like minorities?

Wherever you go, there will be good and bad people. I think there is a general atmosphere of acceptance at Vanderbilt. I have two chidren there and we are of Dominican heritage. They are both having a great experience and are very happy with their decision to attend. Since my oldest has started there, the school has made an effort to attract minorities and there has been a difference in the school make-up (at least in my perception). They both have felt very welcome and part of the larger community.

It should help you get into the school, if that’s what you’re asking, though it’s a stupid reason to admit anyone.

falalalafun, I completely agree. I think it should be illegal to put race/ethnicity anywhere on a college application. Regardless of original intentions, now it just helps encourage reverse racism.

^^ you can thank affirmative action for that one.

I’m an Asian who was admitted, and as ungrateful and heretical as I may sound (don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful), I gotta agree with you.

I will be the first to say that I don’t find it right to admit someone of lower academic ability due to race. I was simply asking if Vanderbilt since being in the South had a negative look on minorities.

If you’re one of those aristocratic cubans who believes that Fulgencio Batista was a great leader you’ll be great. I’ve met a few on campus.
